The Regional Health Authority was established on the 1st January 2002 when the central government took over the responsibility for the hospital services from the county councils. The aim of the Regional Health Authority is to provide the necessary specialist health services for the population of northern Norway and Svalbard.

Our vision is:
The patient should be met with the right competence at the right time and undertake examination and treatment in the region of northern Norway.

The Royal Norwegian Ministry of Health and Care Services owns the Northern Norway Regional Health Authority. The Regional Health Authority is lead by a management board and its administration is located in Bodø.

The Trusts
The hospitals are organised in 5 trusts:

Finnmark Hospital Trust

University Hospital of Northern Norway Trust

Nordland Hospital Trust

Helgeland Hospital Trust

In addition to these we have:

Hospital Pharmacy of North Norway Trust

The trusts have their own management boards and are independent legal entities.
